DEVELOPER DIARY 2: Richard "Richmuel" Williams
This week has been a really productive week with an awful lot of work having been done. With nearly all the primary weapons and quite a few of the secondary weapons having been completed we have moved our focus onto making some truly epic maps for you guys to enjoy.
First off I would like to welcome out two new members Suntzu69 and Orph3n who will be making some stunning Organic models for us. Look out for pictures of some of these in the near future. I assure you, you won't be disappointed.
Anyway, I'm one of the modellers on the team and this week we have really got to work. I have spent the better part of the week modelling some large statics for the maps. We really want our MOD to deliver a real sense of accuracy and immersion that various other titles have failed to give. The team have been busily discussing what we want these maps to play like and we are determined to make you drool. We want our first release to contain at least 3 Ground Maps and a Space map to keep you busy for a little while but then we shall quickly release more for you playing pleasure. However this is still subject to change and at our current speedy working rate we hope to offer you more. Anyway, I'm going to talk to you about what we have planned so far.
On Endor we want to offer the most immersing experience ever, and so my task this week has been to create the Landing Pad. This will have working turbo lifts with the flag located at the top. It should make for some interesting battles and the Sky Bridge at the top should serve as a beautiful sniping spot. Also Nusrilo has been busy working on a pretty amazing shield generator bunker, this will have two floors with the flag in the basement and several rooms for you to battle your way through, we hope that this will create some tense moments.
We want to create maps with places you have never seen before, such as Endor and the landing pad. Yavin IV was another chance for us to create a truly magnificent battle. We hope to have a floating Star Destroyer for the imperials to start from and they will have to race down and capture the beach, queue dramatic D-Day sequence. As the rebels retreat they will fall back onto the Massassi Temple where some really tense close quarters fighting will take place. Also on Hoth we have a few surprises up our sleeve. We are really thinking hard about what we want these maps to be and we really hope you will fall in love with them.
I was really fortunate to get a place on the First Strike team, as with most of us, I had never even tried modelling before, but some of the more experienced have guided us and shown us the way and now we are out to create some truly amazing models. We never cease to work hard and we hope to have some more amazing updates for you shortly.
To sum it up we are rolling out the statics, the organics are coming on nicely and the vehicles are also rolling out. We are still testing and trying to implement many ideas that have been given to us so please do come on over and give us your ideas.
We were discussing possibilities of a Ground to Space map but unfortunately due to limitations of the BF2 Engine we can not proceed with this idea any longer, no matter how amazing it would have been. However we do hope to create a smart server so that every map you play is connected. Depending on the winner of each map a corresponding one will be played. Should the rebels win on Endor; the incomplete Death Star map will be made. We are also in talks with other MODs to implement a United Ranking System so that no matter what MOD you play it will all help your rank, making it worthwhile to play many. We really cannot wait to give this MOD to you and so I am going to get back to working hard. Have a good week and I guess, may the force be with you.
